Free EColi for All!

I was so disgusted when our favorite Mexican restaurant recently closed.  The shopping center was moving it out so that they could move in the No. 1 Chain Restaurant Known for Food Poisoning....

They actually think that giving away free EColi to kids is a good idea?

The string of promotions come as the casual dining chain tries to boost sluggish sales and foot traffic in its restaurants, which have yet to recover from a series of high-profile foodborne illness outbreaks last year.
Chipotle's same-store sales plunged nearly 30 percent in the first quarter, when it reported its first quarterly loss as a public company. The company swung back to profitability in the second quarter, but same-store sales declined 26.5 percent.

Don't look at Moi - I'm sure as hell not eating there.  I meet a friend for lunch, we go to Panera now.

Third Strike

And FINALLY Mr. Danger is O-U-T...

Ms. Abedin released a statement on Monday after the New York Post reported that Mr. Weiner had traded sexual messages with an unidentified woman last year while their 5-year-old son, Jordan, appeared to be asleep beside him.
“After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband,” she said in the statement. “Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.”
And it's a shame. His politics, I like.  But he's a pathetic scumbag.  Who the fuck wants to see his weiner, anyway?

So, What's Good on TV?

We have yet to cut the cable and get an antenna - which we have been threatening to do and it never gets done...  I would be totally glad to get one, and keep my internet.  Although I would miss TCM, and hub would miss MSNBC..... We can always watch Cenk Uygur on Youtube - if we can stand the other twits he's on with.

While waiting for the second season of Poldark......there is Jack Squat on all summer, which sucks, because it's been too hot to go outside for a months.

Bohannon has ridden off to China.  Everything else is on hiatus.  Best Netflix discovery for us this year.  But everything else that's not the dregs, we've seen.  Summer TV just plain sucks.  Phillies suck, too.

Enter Braindead.

What a trip.  The really simplified gist?  A meteor crashes into the earth and is put in storage. Space bugs resembling big black ants escape from the meteor, then crawl around eating people's brains in Washington DC, turning everyone into zombie crackhead type Republicans.... Not sure if what's happening in Florida isn't life imitating art.....creepy, huh? The first epi is weird, stick with it through a few before packing it in.

Bug and Hub like Ozzy and Jack's World Detour  -- hey, at least this History Channel show has some relation to history (unlike things like guys driving trucks on icy roads....).  I think Jack has some real talent with this sort of show, I hope he can turn this into something good for his career.  And, he's adorable.

Of course BOTH of these shows are on at the SAME TIME on the SAME NIGHT.  Grrr. Sunday night, 10:00.  Yay for on Demand.  Guess the cable won't be going quite yet.

Have you ever watched the tv show Diggers?   The one with two guys running around yelling, "Wow look at this awesome nail I found! Maybe it belonged to Benjamin Franklin!"

Yeah, another of those  - but in reality, archaeologists use metal detectors.  So when Bug got accepted to grad school earlier this year, they offered him the chance to go to this workshop at Fort Necessity.

It has long been believed that the heaviest French fire came from the tree line southeast of the fort where the trees reached within 60 yards of the fort. That’s where we focused our metal detecting efforts for the field portion of the class. We found evidence of the battle in the form of dropped and fired musket balls as well as other artifacts relating to the attack. These data confirm that at least some of the French were attacking from this location.
We also now have a cadre of IUP archaeologists trained to use metal detectors on an archaeological site – a skill that we can use here and that students can take with them into the professional world. It was a very productive and successful weekend.

Here's the class of people. He told me he hung out with the old guys - they all really like him.  Old guys, that is.  Everywhere he goes, they latch on to him.

You can't tell him from anyone else, he fits right in.

Leave the Gun....

Only in Philadelphia....and only in the Italian Market.......

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

The other night, Hub and I were watching Ryan Lochte with Matt Lauer.  Neither of us thought that he was lying.  Seemed to Moi that this was ripping his guts out.  That he couldn't keep two thoughts straight may have been many things.  He might not have wanted to get his friends in trouble more than they already were.  None of them had been together, so what do any of them really know what the others said?  And truthfully, he just didn't seem like a brain surgeon, or someone with enough cunning to purposely attempt to fake people out.

Hub said to me, "I wish they would just leave the kid alone now. He's apologized 10x over.  They didn't do shit to Lance Armstrong, why is this kid all of a sudden a pariah?"

He's right.

The Olympics - and the sports and entertainment worlds - have no one but themselves to blame.

People Who Don't Think, No. 1

I hear way  too much bitching about Obama not going to New Orleans right away.

I mean, hey, he's the President.  Aren't we supposed to take precautions before a presidential visit?

In all honesty, if he’s going to visit, I would just as soon it be a week or 10 days or 14 days from now…They free up the interstate for him. We have to take hundreds of local first responders, police officers sheriff’s deputies and state troopers to provide security for that type of visit. I would just as soon have those people engaged in the response rather than trying to secure the president. So I’d ask him to wait, if he would, another couple weeks.’
And yes, Mr. President did inquire about going.....

"....within hours of me making a request for a federal declaration I got it from the president. He called me. I want you to know that I’ve been speaking to Valerie Jarrett just about every day. He dispatched the FEMA administrator to meet with me for an entire day. Today I had the Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. We’ve also had the four-star general who runs all of the guard for the country here today.”

Speaking of slow week....

The next couple of days, I get to take Bug to a workshop where he gets to learn to use metal detectors.   Yah, Diggers.  lol  So I am hoping to have more than the weather to post about.  I won't be staying, but a road trip is always fun.  And I'm sure he will have fun, even with the ungodly heat.

Yeah, it's freeking hot....especially out there where they're having fires....and then, Floods.  Which I don't like conscribing to just a link.

Slow news week Wednesday

Trump blah blah blah and brings in Breitbart lacky to fuck up his campaign more....

Olympics blah blah blah....

Oh, but then, this.  Nice, huh?  Did you see Ladecky swim?  She was like 4 people-lengths ahead of them all....and she gets the small print.

So, How 'Bout Them Cubbies?

Because Phillies Suck.

All you can do is listen to what George Michael once said, and keep watching. That, and you can get really into checking MLB prediction sites on a daily basis to calm your fears. Maybe more than anything that's what makes the Chicago Cubs the team of 2016. In this election year, where you're constantly looking over how battleground states might impact your candidate of choice, different probabilities might come into play and what, exactly, you need to win, Chicago Cubs fans are probably doing the exact same thing. What will it take to finally win? What has to go right and what can't go wrong?
My husband is from Chicago, so I get it.  Dreams crushed every year.   Fabulous for so long, then.....

Oh, wait, that's Philadelphia....well, at least there's the Phanatic.

I Find This Incredibly Sad.

Kathleen Kane, guilty of all charges.....

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele persuaded the jurors that Kane orchestrated the illegal leak of secret grand jury documents to plant a June 2014 story critical of her nemesis, former state prosecutor Frank Fina. Kane then lied about her actions under oath, the jury found.
Kane, in scrutinizing Fina's handling of a past case, found a powerful weapon. While examining how Fina's work investigating sex offender Jerry Sandusky, she learned that Fina, among many others in her agency and elsewhere in government, had been swapping pornographic emails on state computers for years.
One more for the Pennsyltucky old boys....sigh....

Does Anyone REALLY Think He's a REAL Candidate?

Weird tweets?  Pretty much everything he says is BS.  Are people THAT stupid that they really think this is legit?

Donald Trump isn’t mentally equipped to be involved in politics, or any situation that involves competition. The former reality tv star is about as graceful as a bull in a china shop when it comes to taking criticism and he’s oblivious to the fact that he isn’t the only person who is subject to it.

He's friends with the Clintons.  Chelsea and Ivanka are BFFs.   IMO, he has been working for them all along.  He eliminated all the competition for them.   And the nose dive he's taking right now is On Purpose.  Hell, even Jeb figured it out.

That's Moi opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Black Holes and the PA Disability Insurance Abyss

When a parent discovers their child has a disability, insurance is a must.  Not only will there probably be countless medical needs, but they are useful for obtaining services from education to mental health.   What I'm about to describe is in no way complete - it is much more complex than I can put in a blog post....

In PA, for people with disabilities, the age of 21 is the edge of the Black Hole.  Why do we call it a Black Hole?

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

I mentioned in my post about Hillary's Autism Plan and her statement about people with disabilities "receiving the ADA's protections."

Weeeel, let me tell you a little something about "receiving the ADA's protections."  Have any of you applied for a job lately?  Online?  Have you had to take those Psych Tests that accompany 95% of all applications?   Everyone knows these tests are not fair to non-Caucasian races or ethnicities, people with disabilities, and they are sexist as hell.  And they most definitely are not fair to people who are concrete thinkers.  AKA folks with autism. Hell, no.

Not to mention... Are they technically medical tests being given by someone without a medical license? Very possibly....would be nice to figure that out, legally speaking.

Meet the Zigmeister

So, about a year and a half ago, on a nine degree January day, someone on Facebook posted about a little white dog running around in circles on the porch next to my aunt's house in town.  She posted the photo on the left below, and being as it was obviously a bichon, and that Moi;) was also in a state (which shall be explained later), I told the person that if she couldn't find someone to take him, I would find a place through a bichon rescue.

Of course, she didn't find the owner.  And in the next coming weeks, neither did Moi;)

Took him to the vet, who said he was about 5 months old, and got him some shots.  Then got him a haircut.   With hair like that, he must have been on the road for a very long time. After a couple of weeks, he had wiggled his little Ziggy self right into a permanent place in our home.

He's definitely a character.  Guard dog - barks at all the buggies, trucks and whatnot driving on the road by our house, at smells outside... Or like a branch blown down during a storm, or an empty pizza box in the kitchen - anything and everything is noticed, and will set him off!   He also loves television.  Zig and Ollie hit it off almost right away, and will torment each other (playing) constantly.

It's really amazing what difference a haircut makes...

Oh, and yes, we still have our Poochie.  He's 12 now, on the right, below, with Ziggy.  Poochie has been through his own trials and tribulations over the last few years.

We figure Zig was either a Christmas present someone didn't want, or the Amish just dumped him.  I didn't know they did that, but evidently it's a thing.

Don't Complain to Moi;)

Bug has been looking for part-time work all summer – actually, he’s been looking for 5 summers… Over the years, he has applied pretty much everywhere in the neighborhood that doesn’t have to do with food (he is afraid he will eat all day, lol).

A couple of years ago, Home Depot called him 6 months after he applied – when he had written on the application that he was looking for SUMMER work.  I mean, 6 months?  He was back in school already.  No one seems to want a college student or graduate to work for them who has to leave at the end of the summer for a Smithsonian internship….and actually, THAT part I could understand.   Training someone, only for them to leave.

But at least they could be honest and give him a shot with an interview?

Over 5 years, he’s only had two interviews – both over the phone.  And my kid talks a little funny.  Please know that we know that's why he wasn't hired.  Does that mean he isn’t good enough to hire?  And don’t get me started on the psych tests they make people take.  He failed the one at youknowwhere.

Today I was in the bank, and two patrons were discussing loudly with the general population how they can’t keep people they hire.  One runs four businesses (including a local ice cream joint), the other runs a local convenience store, part of a chain.  I stood there, listening to them bitch and moan, and of course, you know I couldn’t stand it any more.  I had to bust in.

Shaking, I said that my son hasn’t been hired anywhere over the last five summers, he has applied to pretty much every business in the area and no one wants him.  He has a virtual stack of rejections (including in the form of those who never got back to him) a foot high.  I told them that kids like him VALUE employment – they WANT work – and I’m really sick of people dissing the kids they hire.  That I have a kid who wants a job, but because he isn’t typical, he’s not thought worthy of making an ice cream cone or heating up a bagel?

What I didn’t outright say that I totally regret, but I’m sure was implied, was that they should not dis these kids because THEY chose the people they hired.  Their judgement is the problem, not the kids they hire.  I know so many kids out there looking for part time work, they don’t hire them. They always choose the cool kids.  Or the ones that maybe they got a name from a friend…. My son doesn’t know anyone.  He doesn’t have friends here.  But our kids are the ones who will STAY.  They WON’T be late or miss work.

So the guy who owns the chain says, “Send him to me, I’ll hire him.”  I said, he’s leaving in 3 weeks…. “He can lift boxes and stock and stuff, my busy season is the summer.”  Then he says,  “Where’s his internship?”  I said The Smithsonian.  “Where’s that?”   Um, Washington, DC.  “Oh, we don’t have any stores up there.”  Up?   See, this is what we're dealing with.  Pennsylfreakingtucky.

“Tell him to go to stupidconveniencestorexxx.com”  Yeah, ok.   Online applications don’t process in 3 weeks – not in our experience, anyway.   I might just have Bug apply to be obnoxious.  But I bet he won’t hear from them before he leaves for DC.

They Don't Call it Pennsyltucky for Nothing...

In Maryland when your car breaks down on a highway because you have no gas in your tank (grrrrr) , these Big Yellow Emergency trucks come around and just give it to you.  For free!!!   Sometimes within a few minutes!   These trucks just drive up and down the highways, looking for people to help.  Imagine that.

In Pa, they drive by and give you the finger ----- time to walk, sucka....!

Hillary's Autism Plan - New and Improved - and for the Diseased!!!

Well, kinda.

First, let me say that Sec'y Clinton has two published websites with regard to the Plan.  The first is the general page with a brief overview.

Dear Hillary, Autism IS NOT A DISEASE.

"Hillary has a long record of advocating for children and families affected by autism, describing the disease in 2007 as “one of the most urgent—and least understood—challenges facing our children.”"

Yes, back in 2007, Hills developed a fairly detailed autism plan for her campaign.   While it's no longer online, interviews and articles are still available with regard to the contents and her intent if you want to read them.  The concentration back then was on the cure, the research to find it, vaccines and whether they were part of it, yadda yadda yadda.

Nothing about adults.  Nothing about employment.  Nothing for caregivers.  Nothing about mental health.  A little about ABA and insurance coverage.  It sounded like she hung out with Autism Speaks to get her information. The ONLY good thing about it - she was going to fully fund IDEA.   In comparison, Obama's was vague and uninformed, pitying, with no real direction.   And really, really short.

This time around, things are different.  Kinda.   This is the Briefing - the Plan itself.  It's better, and yet not better.  I'd really like to rip this sucker apart line by line, but it would be 15 posts.  So, I apologize for the rush job.  And, instead, you get.....
